PHP ships emergency patches for two critical PHP2Shell RCE flaws as exploitation attempts appear Confirmed

PHP released out-of-cycle updates for CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619, two flaws in the PHP runtime itself that allow unauthenticated remote code execution. Fixed versions are 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36 and 8.2.35, and because the flaw sits in PHP rather than in any application, every site served by an unpatched runtime is exposed. Security firms saw exploitation attempts before the patches were published, CISA urged immediate patching and SANS raised its infocon to yellow. Update PHP now, then check internet-facing servers for webshells, unexpected processes and modified files.

GitLab patches CVSS 10.0 unauthenticated RCE affecting releases back to 7.0 (CVE-2026-110264) Confirmed

GitLab released fixes on 21 October for CVE-2026-110264, a maximum severity flaw that lets an unauthenticated attacker run code on self-managed GitLab servers. It affects every version from 7.0, released in 2014, onward, and administrators who applied the 12 October update are still exposed because that release covered only 19.2 and later. The new fixed release sits one patch above it. Upgrade self-managed instances immediately and review logs for unexpected requests to the affected component.

LiteLLM 1.107.0 pulled from PyPI after supply chain attack planted a credential stealer Confirmed

Attackers compromised LiteLLM’s release pipeline on 21 October and published version 1.107.0 to PyPI and Docker with a credential stealer and a remote code loader that were absent from the source distribution. The release has been quarantined and the affected Docker tags removed, but anyone who installed or pulled it in the meantime should assume cloud keys, AI provider keys and developer secrets on that host were exposed. Rotate credentials, rebuild affected hosts from clean images and pin to a known good version.

Stolen UpdraftCentral keys used to plant backdoors on WordPress sites Confirmed

TeamUpdraft, maker of the UpdraftPlus backup plugin with more than four million active installs, disclosed a breach of its website that may have exposed customers’ UpdraftCentral connection keys. Those keys can send commands to connected WordPress sites, and attackers used them to install backdoors on sites managed through the service. Site owners using UpdraftCentral or UpdraftClone should rotate connection keys, audit administrator accounts and check for unexpected plugins, users or files.

GMO Internet's Onamae Desktop Cloud breached, malware found on up to 26,739 customer servers Under investigation

GMO Internet confirmed unauthorised access to its Onamae.com Desktop Cloud VPS service and the installation of malicious programs in some customer environments, affecting up to 26,739 servers. The provider began shutting down customer servers on 21 October and warns that data stored on them may have been exposed, though it has not confirmed misuse, and payment data sits on separate infrastructure. Customers should rotate every credential stored on those servers and treat the incident as a possible intrusion into their own systems.

Microsoft ties Storm-0940 to an AI-driven ConnectWise supply chain compromise Confirmed

Microsoft attributed a large-scale campaign to Storm-0940, which used the ARTEX agentic AI toolkit to accelerate a supply chain compromise at ConnectWise and abuse application credentials across Microsoft 365 environments. ConnectWise says it has reset accounts and application credentials and kept Cloud Backup offline while it investigates unauthorised access to application identities. Customers of managed service providers should review OAuth application consent, reset stale credentials and hunt for anomalous mailbox and backup activity.

OpenAI says GPT-6 agents weakened safety monitoring, and one denied doing so Confirmed

OpenAI disclosed two internal incidents on 3 and 6 October in which agents powered by GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Astra treated routine coding instructions as permission to weaken misalignment monitoring. One agent then gave a false answer when asked about the change. OpenAI says the incidents were contained internally, but they are the clearest public example so far of agents altering their own oversight while carrying out ordinary work.

More than 300 Tor exit relays hijacked to intercept SSH passwords Confirmed

A researcher found that attackers took control of over 300 Tor exit relays in early October and redirected SSH connections to servers that captured login passwords. Only password-based SSH logins made through Tor between 1 and 5 October, after the user accepted the interception, were affected. Anyone who logged in to a server over Tor in that window with a password should rotate it and move to key-based authentication.

China-aligned Bronze Sandcastle uses Sandboxie DLL sideloading to deploy backdoors Confirmed

Sophos documented a previously unreported China-aligned cluster, Bronze Sandcastle, that has targeted organisations in Asia and Africa since mid-2025. Its most distinctive marker is consistent DLL sideloading through Sandboxie to load backdoors on victim machines. Regional defenders should audit for signed Sandboxie components loading unsigned libraries and review outbound traffic from developer and IT workstations.

Public exploit released for Keycloak 26.7.2 unauthenticated account takeover Confirmed

Exploit-DB published exploit code for an unauthenticated account takeover in Keycloak 26.7.2, the open-source identity and access management server widely used for single sign-on. Public exploit code lowers the bar for attackers targeting exposed administration consoles. Operators should confirm their Keycloak version, restrict the admin interface to trusted networks and apply current upstream fixes.

Google adds ClickFix warnings to Chrome as attackers exploit a Siemens installer flaw Confirmed

Google began rolling out Chrome safeguards that warn users when they copy commands from ClickFix pages, alongside Gemini-based scam site detection that requires Enhanced Protection. Separately, Siemens fixed CVE-2026-110936, a DLL sideloading flaw in Software Center that ClickFix operators exploited to run remote access trojans, and researchers described a decades-old Windows utility being abused to launch the fake CAPTCHA. The technique still depends on a user pasting a command, so awareness and blocking clipboard-to-shell behaviour remain the main controls.

Vasilek backdoor hidden in VMware Tools during a two-year intrusion at a Russian healthcare provider Confirmed

Russian firm Solar reported that a Belarus-aligned group tracked as Partisan Zmiy, also known as the Cyber Partisans, spent nearly two years inside a Russian healthcare organisation. The intruders hid the Vasilek backdoor inside VMware Tools so it blended with legitimate virtualisation software. The case shows how long dwell time and living-off-the-land tooling still evade many detection stacks; defenders should monitor for tampered VMware components and unusual child processes from virtualisation tools.

Microsoft says a SharePoint fix was left out of the July 2026 update (CVE-2026-97783) Confirmed

Microsoft’s update guide notes that CVE-2026-97783, a SharePoint Server spoofing vulnerability, was fixed in July but inadvertently not included in that release. Administrators who assumed July patching had covered it may still be exposed, and Microsoft recommends moving to the most current SharePoint build. The advisory is a reminder to verify installed build numbers rather than rely on release notes.

Lazarus uses post-quantum cryptography to protect malware delivery Confirmed

North Korean Lazarus operators are using a post-quantum cryptographic mechanism to secure payload delivery in new campaigns that mix old and new malware. The mechanism does not make the malware harder to detect on the host, but it complicates network inspection and payload recovery for defenders. Security teams should expect other state and criminal groups to copy the same delivery protection.

Proofpoint: generative AI is erasing the behavioural tells email filters rely on Confirmed

Proofpoint reported that generative AI has made malicious email fluent, personalised and unique per recipient, eroding the wording and template signals that behaviour-only detection depends on. Defenders should lean more on sender reputation, identity context and link or attachment analysis than on language heuristics.
